UNIPORT JAMB Cut-Off Mark for 2024/2025

So, you’ve set your sights on the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT)? That’s a great choice! Known for its vibrant campus life and quality education, UNIPORT is a top pick for many students. But gaining admission isn’t a walk in the park. One of the most crucial factors is understanding the university’s cut-off marks. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll break down everything you need to know about UNIPORT’s cut-off marks for the 2024/2025 academic session, and beyond.

What is UNIPORT JAMB Cut-Off Marks/ Departmental Cut-Off Marks

What exactly is a cut-off mark? Think of it as the minimum score you need to qualify for admission into a particular course. UNIPORT, like many other Nigerian universities, sets cut-off marks based on the previous year’s performance of candidates, the number of available spaces, and the overall competition for each course.

Key Points to Remember:

  1. JAMB Cut-Off Mark: This is the minimum score required to be eligible for UNIPORT’s Post-UTME screening.
  2. Departmental Cut-Off Marks: These vary from course to course. Some popular courses like Medicine, Law, and Engineering often have higher cut-off marks due to high competition.

UNIPORT JAMB Cut-Off Mark for 2024/2025

The good news is that UNIPORT has announced a JAMB cut-off mark of 160 for the 2024/2025 academic session. This means you must score at least 160 in your JAMB exam to be considered for admission.

But wait, there’s more! While achieving the JAMB cut-off is essential, it’s just the first step. The real battle lies in the departmental cut-off marks.

UNIPORT Departmental Cut-Off Marks

As mentioned earlier, cut-off marks differ for each department. Factors influencing these cut-offs include:

  1. Course Popularity: High-demand courses naturally have higher cut-off marks.
  2. Number of Applicants: A large number of applicants can push the cut-off higher.
  3. Previous Year’s Performance: The performance of previous candidates impacts the current year’s cut-off.

Important Note: While we’ve provided a general overview, it’s crucial to check the specific cut-off mark for your desired course. UNIPORT usually releases an official list of departmental cut-off marks after the Post-UTME results.

How to Check UNIPORT Cut-Off Marks

To get the most accurate and up-to-date information about UNIPORT’s departmental cut-off marks, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the UNIPORT Official Website: This is the most reliable source of information.
  2. Check Admission Portal: Look for a section dedicated to cut-off marks or admission requirements.
  3. Contact UNIPORT Admissions Office: If you have trouble finding the information online, you can reach out to the admissions office directly.

Tips for Increasing Your Chances of Admission

  1. Aim High in JAMB: While the cut-off is 160, scoring higher significantly improves your chances.
  2. Excel in Post-UTME: This exam carries a lot of weight in the final admission score.
  3. Meet Other Requirements: Ensure you have the necessary O’ level results and other documents.
  4. Choose Your Course Wisely: Consider your interests, abilities, and career goals when selecting a course.
  5. Stay Updated: Keep an eye on UNIPORT’s official website and admission portal for important announcements.

Conclusion

Gaining admission to UNIPORT requires dedication, hard work, and a clear understanding of the admission process. By familiarizing yourself with the cut-off marks and following the tips provided, you’ll be well on your way to achieving your dream of studying at UNIPORT.

Remember, competition is stiff, so don’t rely solely on cut-off marks. Aim for the highest possible scores in your JAMB and Post-UTME exams. Good luck!

JAMB Abolishes Cut-Off Mark (No Cut-Off Mark)

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) issued a statement on its official platform on Thursday. The statement addressed recent reports concerning standardized cut-off marks for admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

JAMB emphasized that it does not have any special cut-off mark for admissions. Instead, each tertiary institution has the authority to determine its own “minimum tolerable score” for admission purposes.

“There’s no such thing as ‘cut-off mark’ in the admission process to tertiary institutions in Nigeria, what’s obtainable is minimum tolerable score determinable by individual institutions,” it said.

This clarification comes after widespread reports claimed JAMB had established cut-off marks of 140 for universities and 100 for polytechnics and colleges. The statement highlights the distinction between JAMB’s role in conducting entrance exams and the individual institutions’ responsibility for setting admissions criteria.

The JAMB statement follows a policy meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday. The meeting involved key figures in Nigerian education, including the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, vice-chancellors, rectors, registrars, and other stakeholders. While details of the meeting’s discussions haven’t been publicly disclosed, the statement clarifies its position regarding cut-off marks for admissions.

Understanding the admissions process is crucial for prospective students in Nigeria. While JAMB conducts standardized entrance exams, individual universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education hold the authority to establish their own minimum score requirements for admission. This means that students should research the specific requirements of their desired institutions in addition to taking the UTME entrance exam.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) revealed the top scorers in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) during an ongoing policy meeting.

This year’s top scores ranged from 363 to 367, highlighting the competitive nature of the exam. JAMB officials commended the dedication and hard work of the high scorers.

The list was unveiled by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede during the ongoing policy meeting.

Here are the top scorers…

1. Olowu David – 367 (Ondo State)

2. Alayande David – 367 (Oyo State)

3. Orukpe Joel – 367 (Edo State)

4. Emmanuel Jeremiah – 366 (Akwa Ibom State)

5. Essiet Etini – 365 (Akwa Ibom State)

6. Ezenwoko Zara – 365 (Abia State)

7. Umoh Joshua – 365 (Akwa Ibom State)

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) decided not to announce the name of the top scorer in the 2024 UTME. This decision follows previous incidents where score information was misused.

“It is common knowledge that the Board has, at various fora, restated its unwillingness to publish the names of its best-performing candidates, as it considers its UTME as only a ranking examination on account of the other parameters that would constitute what would later be considered the minimum admissible score for candidates seeking admission to tertiary institutions,” Oloyede said.

JAMB officials commended the students for their exceptional performance on this year’s challenging UTME. Their scores reflect the high standards the exam aims to maintain.

Top scorers hail from across Nigeria, showcasing the nation’s diverse talent pool. Students from Ondo, Oyo, Edo, and Akwa Ibom States achieved outstanding results.

JAMB Announces New Minimum Age Requirement for Nigerian Universities

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) clarified information about admission requirements for colleges and universities in Nigeria.

At the policy meeting, which was held on Thursday 18th July 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria, the minister of Education, Tahir Mamman made a decision that admission should not be given to candidates under the age of 18.

The recent announcement by the Minister of Education regarding the minimum age for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria has sparked a conversation among educators and parents. While some agree with the policy, others have expressed conerns.

According to him, the 18-year benchmark is linked to with the structure of the 6-3-3-4 system of education.

“JAMB is hereby instructed from admission this year to admit only eligible students. That is those who have attained 18 years by our laws,” He stated.

The Minister explained that current Nigerian law sets out a specific timeframe for primary, secondary, and tertiary education. This structure is designed for students to reach 18 years old by the time they complete secondary school and potentially qualify for university admission.”

This clarifies the Minister’s argument that the 18-year minimum age is already established by law.

“Our laws require students to be in school from six years – Yes, there are those who do that from five –  and remain in primary school for six years, basic education for three years, and secondary school for three years… It doesn’t require a statement of the minister… we are only restating what is in the law,” he added.

Professor Mamman also mentioned the Ministry of Education’s efforts to offer a wider range of educational programs. This includes providing opportunities to develop practical skills starting in primary school.”

The 2024 policy meeting about admissions for higher education in Nigeria included a discussion about the minimum age for starting university. There were different ideas presented by the stakeholders, and after considering all the input, a final decision was made about the admission age.”

Some participants at the meeting expressed concern that students who had already taken the admissions test might be affected by a new age requirement.”

Professor Kayode Ijiadunola countered the minister’s proposal at a policy meeting. He suggested 16 as the minimum age for admission, and his idea resonated with many participants, including heads of institutions, registrars, and admissions officers.

“What happens to those who have written this year’s exams and passed their exams? We reject 18 years as the minimum age requirement and are proposing 16 years,” he said.

In Summary, this year (2024), 16-year-olds who applied to tertiary institutions can still be admitted, but Starting next year (2025), the minimum age to enter these schools will be 18.

After Jamb, What Next??

Following  after JAMB and pending POST-UTME, tremendous things should be taken into consideration while enduring the wait.

Discovering the JAMB cut-off score for your favored institution for the present year forms the first stride. This data will ascertain your eligibility for admission to the institution.

Ascertain the 2024 JAMB Cut-off Score for Your Institution

Determining the current year’s JAMB cut-off mark for your desired academic setting is the primary step. This datum will determine your likelihood of securing admission to the institution.

Acknowledge the departmental cut-off score for your program.

After viewing your JAMB results, the subsequent stride is to recognize the departmental cut-off score for the course you have chosen. Having knowledge of the departmental cut-off mark for your chosen program can aid you in evaluating the level of competition and your prospects of gaining admission. The standard is impacted by various aspects, such as prior cut-off scores, the performance of applicants for the same program as you, and the number of applications received.

Take into Consideration Changing Institutions or Degree Programs

In the event that your JAMB score does not meet the necessary standard, contemplate exploring alternate programs or colleges that have less stringent admission prerequisites. This adjustment may necessitate altering either your course or institution to accommodate your score. Employing this strategic maneuver enhances your possibility of being admitted.

Procure a screening or post-UTME application.

After contemplating your JAMB results, it is advisable to register for the post-UTME screening process.

You can periodically check the institution’s website or obtain information from an insider to stay abreast of updates. Kindly ensure to maintain regular contact, at minimum twice weekly, to remain informed about the commencement of the POST UTME screening at the institution. Upon availability, procure the post-UTME or screening application from your selected academic establishment and duly complete it. Neglecting to participate in this process might jeopardize your likelihood of gaining admission for the ensuing academic session.

Prepare for online screening or post-UTME assessments.

Subsequent to securing the post-UTME screening form, readiness for post-UTME assessments, or for online screening if your institution does not conduct aptitude evaluations, is paramount. Allocate time to adequately prepare for any mandatory post-UTME evaluations. Studies indicate that POST-UTME assessments are based on JAMB evaluations. Therefore, it is strongly recommended for students to utilize a dependable JAMB CBT Application to enhance their preparation. Thoroughly review at least a decade of subjects covered in the CBT exams to refresh your comprehension.

Anticipate the announcement of screening or post-UTME outcomes.

Await the declaration of results subsequent to the conclusion of the post-UTME or screening process. This phase of the admission procedure holds crucial significance.

Subsequently, anticipate the issuance of admission listings.

Following the conclusion of the screening process, patiently await the unveiling of admission lists by your preferred institution. Your academic trajectory and admission status hinge upon the contents of this listing.

Stay tuned!!!

JAMB Sets the Stage for 2024/2025 Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced that Thursday, July 18, 2024, will be the date for its crucial Policy Meeting on Admissions into tertiary institutions across Nigeria. This annual gathering, to be presided over by the Honorable Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, is a pivotal event that shapes the educational landscape of the country.

A host of key stakeholders will converge for this significant meeting. Representatives from regulatory bodies such as the National University Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Council for Colleges of Education (NCCE) will be in attendance. Additionally, heads of tertiary institutions nationwide and officials from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will contribute their expertise to the discussions.

JAMB holds 2024 cut-off mark and admission policy meeting July 18th
Jamb

The policy meeting serves as a cornerstone for the entire admission process, laying the groundwork for the upcoming academic year. It’s a platform where admission guidelines are meticulously crafted, application statistics are analyzed, and candidates’ performance is rigorously evaluated. One of the most critical outcomes of this meeting is the determination of the minimum acceptable admission standards for all tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

A key focus of the meeting will be the presentation of comprehensive reports by the JAMB Registrar. These reports will delve into the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and provide an update on the ongoing Direct Entry (DE) applications. Furthermore, the Registrar will dissect crucial performance indicators that will influence the government’s policy directions in the realm of admissions.

To ensure a smooth and transparent process, the meeting will also address lingering issues from the previous year’s admission exercise. Stakeholders will have the opportunity to discuss challenges faced and propose solutions to prevent their recurrence. Moreover, a thorough evaluation of candidates’ performance in the current year’s UTME will be undertaken to establish the minimum admissible score for securing a place in tertiary institutions.

It’s worth noting that the previous year’s policy meeting resulted in a consensus on minimum admission requirements for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Building upon this foundation, the upcoming meeting will solidify the admission criteria for the current year, officially commencing the admission process.

Beyond setting admission benchmarks, the policy meeting will serve as a forum for addressing unresolved matters from the preceding academic year. Additionally, stakeholders will assess compliance with existing advisories and explore potential amendments to enhance the overall admission process.

As the nation eagerly awaits the outcome of this pivotal meeting, JAMB has pledged to provide regular updates on the proceedings. The decisions made during this gathering will undoubtedly have a profound impact on the educational aspirations of countless young Nigerians.

The policy meeting is more than just a bureaucratic exercise; it’s a platform where the future of higher education is shaped. The deliberations and decisions made will determine the opportunities available to aspiring students and, consequently, the trajectory of Nigeria’s intellectual and economic growth.

With the stakes high and expectations running strong, all eyes will be on the Honorable Minister of Education and the assembled stakeholders as they work diligently to create a robust and equitable admissions framework for the nation’s youth.

Jamb Uncovers 3,000 Fake Graduates

The Nigerian government has confirmed that an investigation is underway regarding 3,000 people suspected of obtaining fake college degrees. This discovery was made by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the organization responsible for university entrance exams in Nigeria.

JAMB uncovered evidence suggesting that 3,000 individuals might have obtained degrees fraudulently. These individuals are believed to have been part-time students who somehow managed to gain entry into regular university programs.

The Motive

The main reason these individuals might have sought fake degrees appears to be participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. NYSC is a mandatory one-year service program for Nigerian graduates, where they contribute to national development by working in various capacities across the country. However, participation in NYSC requires a legitimate university degree.

Government Response

The Minister of State for Education, Tanko Sununu, confirmed the ongoing investigation and emphasized that those found guilty could face prosecution for forgery. He also mentioned a separate investigation into allegations of “degree racketeering” in foreign and private universities. This suggests a wider concern about the legitimacy of some degrees obtained outside of Nigeria.

Foreign Degrees Under Scrutiny

Minister Sununu highlighted concerns about degrees obtained from universities in Benin Republic and Togo. These institutions may not be recognized by Nigerian authorities. This means that even if someone has a degree from one of these universities, it might not be considered valid in Nigeria.

Why This Matters

Fake degrees pose a serious threat to the Nigerian education system. People with fraudulent degrees likely lack the knowledge and skills necessary for success in their chosen fields. This not only hurts their own careers but also weakens the overall Nigerian economy. Additionally, it undermines public trust in the education system and casts a shadow on the credibility of legitimate graduates.

Moving Forward

The government’s commitment to investigating and prosecuting those involved sends a strong message. Minister Sununu emphasized the importance of a secure education system where degrees are earned honestly. Recommendations from the investigation into foreign degrees will hopefully lead to stricter regulations and improved verification processes.

Strengthening the System

Beyond prosecution, this situation necessitates additional measures to prevent similar occurrences. Strengthening collaboration between JAMB, universities, and relevant government agencies is critical. Additionally, raising awareness about the risks and consequences of obtaining fraudulent degrees is essential. Increased public scrutiny can help deter such practices.

Conclusion

The discovery of these fake graduates highlights the need for a robust and secure Nigerian education system. Rigorous investigations, stricter regulations, and a collective effort to uphold academic integrity are crucial to ensure the quality and credibility of Nigerian education. This will not only protect the value of legitimate degrees but also equip graduates with the necessary skills to drive national development.
