This is one of the leading faculties in the University of Nigeria with 9 departments.

Departments in this faculty includes ; Economics, Political science, Social work, Religion and cultural studies, Psychology, Philosophy, Public Administration and Local government, Geography, Sociology and Anthropology.

Department of UNN Economics

Economics is a social science that studies how societies allocate scarce resources.

It analyses how individuals, businesses, and governments make choices about production, consumption, and distribution of goods and services.

Study duration is 4 years.

School Fees for UNN Economics

The school fees for Economics at the UNN for the current academic year is as follows :

  • Freshers = ₦110,800
  • Level 200 = ₦96,650
  • Level 300 = ₦74,000
  • Level 400 = ₦70,500

Admission Requirements into UNN Economics

UNN offers two primary entry modes for Home Science and Management:

  • JAMB UTME Entry (100-Level):

This is for students who wrote JAMB, the standard entry mode for students with the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), National Examination Council (NECO), or their equivalents.

  • O’Level Requirements

You need 5 O Level credit passes in

    • English language,
    • Mathematics,
    • Economics and
    • Any other relevant subject
  • Direct Entry:

This mode caters to candidates with qualifications beyond secondary school, such as Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) or Advanced Level (A’Level) certificates in relevant fields.

You need 2 A level passes in Economics and any one of Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, physics, chemistry Agric science, Accountancy, Business management, History, Government.

JAMB Subject Combination For UNN Economics

For the UTME exams, you’ll need to select the following subjects:

  • English Language
  • Economics
  • Mathematics
  • Any of Govt. History, Geography, English Literature, French and C R k.
JAMB Cut-Off Mark:

UNN has a general UTME cut-off mark for all courses, typically ranging between 160 – 200.

However, for competitive courses like Economics, achieving the minimum cut-off may not guarantee admission.

In most cases, a significantly higher score (often exceeding 250) is necessary to be considered for the next stage.

Departmental cutoff mark  for UNN Economics

The departmental cutoff mark for Economics  is between 160+ .

Economics Post ume

If you meet the JAMB UTME requirements and score competitively, you’ll be invited to participate in UNN  Post-UTME Screening Exercise.

This is an additional selection process conducted by UNN to assess your suitability for their programs. Here’s what to expect:

  • Screening Test:

The post-UTME test typically focuses on the same subject combination taken in JAMB UTME: English Language, Economics, Mathematics, and another relevant social science subject.

  • Screening Cut-Off Mark:

There’s no official published cut-off mark for the UNN post-UTME screening test specifically for Economics. However, scoring well (often exceeding the JAMB UTME score) is crucial to increase your chances of securing a place in the program.
