About the University of Nigeria, Nsukka

UNN Department of Biomedical Engineering | Faculty of Engineering

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, was established by Nnamdi Azikiwe in 1955, but it formally opened on October 7, 1960. The university is widely recognized as Nigeria’s first fully indigenous and autonomous university, making it well-known and popular. The university is dedicated to offering high and quality education along side opportunities across various fields of study.

About the Faculty of Engineering

In 1961, it was formally known as the College of Engineering, When the college was founded, it was renamed the Faculty of Engineering, and it became the country’s first engineering faculty in a university in Nigeria.

Prof. J.A. Veltrop was the first dean of this great faculty. Prof. Emenike Ejiogu, an electrical engineering professor, is the current dean of this faculty. The faculty has had twenty-five deans since its founding. Senior lecturers and above make up half of the academic personnel. This faculty consist of eight departments have a combined total of 2438 students.

About Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary field of study that combines both principles from engineering and biological sciences to develop technological aspects of healthcare services. This field encompasses a wide range of activities, including the design of medical devices, the development of biomaterials, and the creation of diagnostic equipment. Biomedical engineers play a critical role in advancing medical technologies and improving patient outcomes.

Biomedical Engineering Fees

The cost of attending the Department of Biomedical Engineering varies based on study level. The fees for Nigerian undergraduate students normally range from ₦45,000 to ₦60,000 per session. Fees for newly admitted students could be higher, because of additional fees like; Accommodations, textbooks, and other educational supplies, which are extra expenses.

Qualifications for Admission into Biomedical Engineering Engineering

In order to be admitted to the department of biomedical engineering, applicants must fulfill a number of conditions, including high academic standards, success in UTME exams, and additional standards established by the engineering faculty and institution.
